Many people view Pilates as an activity done by women and meant for dancers. When in actuality, Pilates was created by a man for men. Joseph Pilates worked with rehabilitating injured and diseased detainees during World War II. Using bedsprings and other available equipment, Joseph built apparatuses to allow the men to physically move while staying in their beds. This lead to the development of the reformer.
