Day 3

So my hopes for the night to be a little bit warmer were shattered when we could barely sleep all night long.  It was so cold I was lying there thinking “WHEN IS THE SUN GOING TO RISE?”  We were slow moving once the sun did rise, but once we got going, we headed to the Awaga Pictographs. Before we left Solly adjusted the bike rack so that it wouldn’t dent the trunk of the car with my lovely yoga mat – guess they have more than one use.

I admit I was a little chicken going out on the ledge because of all the warning signs saying people have died checking out the Pictographs.  Once Solly went out there no problem, I wasn’t such a scaredy cat and got all the way out.  On the way back to the car we took another route, which consisted of rock stairs.

After the Pictographs, we stopped at Katherine’s Cove, than moved on to South Old Woman Bay.  This trail was surprisingly tiring but quite amusing to travel along.  The rapids from the bay are gorgeous and worth the difficult hike.  There were roots to trip you every which way and huge rocks to climb and jump across.  Even though the trail is only 2.5kms it still took an hour and a half.

We were quite tired so we skipped Old Woman bay and continued on to Wawa for the giant goose.  We were hoping to see Curtis and Jerry since they are there, but my cell phone had no service so we couldn’t reach them.  We had lunch at Hwy 17 restaurant, which Sol and I shared a club sandwich and Fish and Chips.  The food was surprisingly good and very satisfying after a tiring hike.  We started our drive towards Thunder Bay, which we stopped along the way and took some photos down by the water on some SMOOOOOTH rocks.

The plan was to stay in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, but we had taken our time all day long, it was starting to get dark and I didn’t realize HOW far off the path the park was.  The roads were long, windy and dark and it was now 10pm.  No one was at the office so we set up camp on an empty site 😛  We set up the tent pretty quick for being pitch black out.  And its off to bed after an awesome day in Northern Ontario 🙂
