Day 5
First thing in the morning, we went for a little bike ride around the campsite and down to the lake that the campsite is situated on. Once the campsite was all tidied up and put away, we were on our way. Of course, we had to stop for coffee before hitting the road, but once that was done we were on our way to cross the Ontario border. Along the road we saw a gigantic rubber ducky, which we just had to stop and take pictures with.
“OMG look at the giant rubber duck!!!”We didn’t have long before we hit the border, which we again stopped for a photo opt.
YEAH!!! Outta Ontario into Manitoba!!!We stopped at a road stop because I needed a washroom break, which we used as an excuse to have breakfast since you had to buy something to use the washroom. Solly had the early riser, which consisted of eggs, ham, home fries and toast. He claims they were the least greasy home fries he’s ever had. They used red potatoes for the home fries, which is rare. I had the mushroom and onions skillet, which was quite tasty as well. I was so full from the meal I couldn’t imagine doing a crossfit workout once arriving in Winnipeg. We also grabbed seedless grapes from a fruit stand outside the restaurant. YUMMY!
Then we were on our way since we had to make our workout. We were taking a class at Undefeated CrossFit in Winnipeg. Matt and his clients were very welcoming and he has created a very laid back atmosphere accepting any new guests. The workout of the day (WOD) was:
Kettlebell Windmills – 3×3
Power cleans – 2×4, 2×2, 2×1 – I lifted my highest for these today! My cleans tend to move away from the body, but they are finally looking better.
Baseline Workout – This part killed me LOL
500 m row – This was the killer part
40 squats
30 sit ups – these sit ups you had to sit in a frog position, which I had never done before, but I liked them because you won’t engage your hip flexors.
20 push ups
10 pull ups
The idea was to do the baseline as quick as you can – Solly’s time was 5:50 and mine was 6 mins.
After a cool down we were on our way. Thanks Matt and Undefeated!!!! I always find if I push myself really hard cardiovascularly it tastes like iron in my mouth. Well the taste was present, so I definitely worked my butt off J.
We were off to find food after our awesome workout. We found a road that was busy with food trucks so we stopped. Solly had a pork sandwich from a Japanese Crepe truck and I had a gyro.
We were heading in the direction of the Royal Canadian Mint, or at least we thought we were, but we ended up at the Forks Market. We roamed around a little bit, checked out the fudge being made and the glass blowing. Then we made our second attempt to make it to the mint. We eventually had to stop and get directions so that we would make it there on time before it closed.
Forks Market in Winnipeg- FUDGE!!!!
We did arrive in time for the last tour. Before the tour we checked out the gold bar. It only weighs 23lbs, but because it is so dense it feels quite heavy. Even Solly was surprised at how heavy it felt despite lifting weights on a regular basis. They also had the Canadian 2012 Olympic Medals on display.
Wow that’s heavy!- “I’m gonna eat it!”
Then we were off to our next resting spot. We originally planned to stay at Riding Mountain Provincial Park, but we changed our mind and decided to drive towards the border. So we drove towards Brandon and then stayed at Rivers Provincial Park. Once we set up our tent, we had a bonfire and just chatted until bed.
